The kidnapped teacher in Ekiti State, Mr. Festus Olatunde Oke, kidnapped on Monday, one week ago, has regained his freedom.
Sources close to the family told the Nigerian Tribune on the telephone, on Tuesday that it was true that Oke has regained his freedom and said it was ‘a relief to us all.’
The source refused to say if a ransom was paid, saying “the story we want to tell is that our father and brother has regained his freedom and we thank God for his safe return.”
Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Ekiti State wing, S.O. Olugbesan, confirmed that his member had regained freedom.
Also confirming the development, the secretary of NUT in the state, Mr. Olugbenga Ajibade, said “his family told us that he was freed on Saturday.”
On whether the family and the union paid a ransom, Ajibade declined to answer the question, saying “the issue has gone beyond that and we just want to thank God that our member returned in one piece.”
