Gunmen who kidnapped the Ekiti State chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Paul Omotosho have released him on Thursday after spending five days in captivity.
Omotosho alongside two others were on Saturday last week kidnapped while traveling along the Agbado-Ekiti – Imesi-Ekiti road and whisked to unknown destination.
It was gathered the the gunmen reportedly contacted the family and asked for an undisclosed amount of money as ransom for the victim to be released.
Nigerian Tribune gathered that the APC leader was released around midnight on Thursday, along with the two other persons abducted in his hometown of Imesi-Ekiti.
A source close to the family said, ” in an interesting situation, the chairman was dropped in Imesi-Ekiti around 1 a.m on Thursday by the gunmen and we are happy that he is back with us.
” At the moment, he has gone for medical treatment to overcome the trauma and what he might have faced in the hands of the kidnappers.”
As of press time on Thursday, it could not be verified whether the family paid ransom before the party chairman regained his freedom.
Meanwhile, the state police command while announcing the safe return of Omotosho, said the operation leading to his release was carried out by combined team of security agencies including Amotekun corps and local hunters.
The PPRO said, ” while appreciating the good spirited members of the public for their concern and relentless supports, the Command states that three suspects have been arrested in connection with the kidnapping and are supplying useful information that could lead to the arrest of the prime suspects who are currently at large.
” Citizens are implored to be security conscious, vigilant and ensure the prompt reportage of any suspicious person or group of persons observed in their locality to the nearest Police Station or call 08062335577.”
