Kekemeke should resign ―Tunji Abayomi

AS the South West caucus of the All Progressives Congress (APC) visit Ondo state today to wade into the crisis in the Ondo State chapter of the party, a chieftain of the party in the state, Dr Tunji Abayomi, said the only solution to the ongoing leadership crisis in the party is for the embattled chairman, Hon Isaac Kekemeke to resign his position.

Abayomi who stated this while speaking with journalists in Akure, Ondo state capital said it would have been honorable for Kekemeke  to vacate his position to give room for peace in the party.

He said, “With what I gathered, he does not have good relationship with the governor, he does not have good relationship with the SEC members, he does not have good relationship with the party chairmen of the local governments and he does not have good relationship with substantial members of the party, it does make sense for him to remain in that position.

“In my own view, if I were Kekemeke, I would simply resign, I think that is the best thing to do. I am saying this because from my own investigation, he has bad relationship with all the leaders of the party, including the governor and majority of members of his executive. With this situation, what is his he going to stand on?

“There is this belief that he (Kekemeke) was the cause of the problem to the party, democracy is about majority and as a chairman, if you have problem with the majority in your party, including party leaders, you can not succeed and you can not survive the crisis.”

Kekemeke, for the past few weeks had been battling with the members of the State Executive Committee of the party who purportedly suspended him for allegedly not performing his role actively in the party. He was also alleged to be involving in some anti-party activities.

To this end, the SEC, which set up a three-man fact-finding disciplinary committee to probe the chairman,  appointed the state’s deputy chairman, Mr Ade Adetimehin to lead the party in acting capacity.  But Kekemeke who allegedly shunned the invitation of the disciplinary committee faulted the action of the SEC members and insisted that he was still the chairman of the party.

The human rights activist and former governorship aspirant of the APC however noted that the leadership crisis of the party could not distract the Rotimi Akeredolu-led administration from delivering dividends of the democracy to the people of the state.
