Keeping quiet amidst economic woes worrisome, youth group tells Nigerian elders

A frontline youth group, National Youth Alliance (NYA), has noted that the continued silence of the elders amidst, economic and security challenges is worrisome.

This was even as they maintained that it had robbed the elders of being called statesmen.

In a statement signed by the SA Media to NYA President, Ambassador Aliyu Bin Abbas, Okpani Jacob Onjewu Dickson, made available to newsmen in Kaduna on Sunday noted that with the current hardships and security challenges facing the country, it is rather unfortunate that our elders are keeping mute.

The statement declared that one would have expected that they would raise their voices and speak to power.

“It is unfortunate that with the current condition of the country that our economy is on a constant downturn, all our elders who ought to be fathers of the nation at these trying times have remained silent.

“It is even more worrisome that with the degenerating security issues, it is expected that our fathers raise their voices against the scourge,”

Ambassador Abbas explained,  “Numerous individuals purporting to be paternal figures have ensnared the younger generation, stifling their potential through various means.

“The fundamental principle of a father nurturing his son’s growth has been distorted, complicating the inheritance of power and resources.

“As a result, the passing down of authority, materials, and other essentials has become a daunting task for these individuals.”

NYA said that this phenomenon underscores Nigeria’s status as a “fatherless nation,” where the guidance and support needed for youth development are conspicuously absent, hindering the country’s progress.
