Kebbi govt organises training for 1,000 primary school teachers

The Kebbi State Government has taken a significant step to enhance the quality of education in the state by training an additional 1,000 primary school teachers.

The training, which focuses on core subjects like English, Mathematics, and pedagogy, aims to equip teachers with the necessary skills for effective performance and efficient service delivery.

According to Governor Nasir Idris, the training program is a follow-up to a similar exercise conducted in January 2024, which had a tremendous impact on the teaching and learning processes in schools. The governor emphasized that the training would be an annual program, underscoring the state government’s commitment to making education a priority.

Governor Idris noted that education is the bedrock of every society, and it is essential to lay a solid foundation for young people. He highlighted the importance of regular training and retraining of teachers, motivation, provision of standard facilities and equipment, and ensuring a conducive environment for teaching and learning.

The governor was represented by the Head of Service, Alhaji Malami Muhammad Shekare, MNI, at the opening ceremony.

In line with the state government’s vision for a prosperous state, 21 distinguished professors have been appointed to serve as Chairmen of Local Government Education Authority (LGEA). This move is aimed at ensuring that the education of children is properly managed and government policies are effectively executed.

The Executive Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education (SUBEB), Prof. Sulaiman Khalid-Jega, disclosed that the government has made significant investments in education, including the provision of 789 classrooms, 16,582 units of school furniture, and training for 8,462 teachers and education managers.

The two-week training workshop was organized by the state government in collaboration with Consultancy Services of Waziri Umaru Federal Polytechnic, Birnin Kebbi. The Rector of the polytechnic, Dr. Usman Sani-Tunga, commended the organizers of the workshop and the efforts of the state government in enhancing the quality of education in Kebbi State.
