The Kebbi State government on Tuesday flagged off vaccination of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine beginning with health workers.
The Chief Medical Director of Kebbi Medical Centre, Dr. Abubakar Koko, was the first person to take the first jab followed by Dr. Aminu Haliru Bunza, the CMD of Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital all in Birnin-Kebbi, the state capital.
The state Commissioner for Health, Alhaji Jafaru Muhammed, performed the kick-off of the vaccination on behalf of Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu.
He explained that the delay in the beginning of the exercise was necesitated by the extensive enlightenment and sensitisation carried out by the government across the four emirates of the state on the safety and efficacy of the vaccine.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Yahaya Seriki, led journalists in the state to receive the vaccine.
