Kebbi govt assures workers of new minimum wage payment

Kebbi Governor, Comrade (Dr) Nasir Idris, has assured civil servants in the state that his administration is committed to implementing the new minimum wage as soon as it is approved by the Federal Government.

A committee, TRIBUNE ONLINE gathered, has been established to determine a payable and affordable minimum wage for workers in the state, comprising the SSG, Head of Service, and organized Labour representatives.

The Governor instructed the Head of Service and Secretary to the State Government to consult with the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) leadership to determine a minimum wage that will benefit workers.

He expressed his intention to make Kebbi State a leader in workforce welfare.

Governor Idris urged workers to rededicate themselves to hard work and maintain the existing harmony between workers and the government. He also announced plans to recruit 2,000 qualified teachers with NCE and Bachelor of Education degrees to teach in schools, promoting quality education.

Additionally, he pledged to offer automatic employment to Kebbi State students studying Medicine in and outside the country and address the remuneration shortfall for doctors in state hospitals to prevent them from leaving for better opportunities.

The Governor highlighted his administration’s achievements, including prompt payment of salaries, pensions, and gratuities on the 24th or 25th of every month.

He also mentioned the nearing completion of the State Secretariat, which will accommodate all ministries and government agencies.
