Kebbi Gov allocates N2bn patrol vehicles to state security agencies

Kebbi State Governor, Dr Comrade Nasiru Idris, distributed patrol vehicles worth N2 billion to all the security agencies domiciled in the state on Thursday.

The 27 operation vehicles, which include the Toyota Hilux and Toyota Land Cruiser, will enhance the operation abilities of security personnel who have been battling banditry in and around the boundary areas of Niger, Zamfara, and Sokoto States.

In his speech, while handing over the vehicles, the governor stated that the government and the people of Kebbi State appreciate what the security agencies are doing across the state in combating the activities of bandits.

Governor Idris said the people of the state have no reason not to thank them for their collective efforts, saying they have done it before and they would continue to do it again.

He noted that the immediate past administration did not provide security agents in the state with any operational vehicles, but having noticed the complaints from some arms of security about operational vehicles, his administration deemed it necessary to allow all the security agencies to benefit from these gestures.

He noted that the procurement and distribution of the vehicles were aimed at encouraging them to put more effort into what they are doing and to allow them to do their job diligently, as the government, on its part, will look inward to review what it has been doing for them to allow them to be able to maintain the vehicles.

Gov. Idris also paid glowing tributes to members of the Vigilante group who have been confronting banditry in many rural areas of the state.

The breakdown of the vehicles to security agencies showed the police took 10 Hillux, the army took 6, the DSs took 4, the Civil Defence took 3, and Vigilante took 1 and 1 vehicle to his adviser on security.

While thanking the Governor for the gestures on behalf of security chiefs in the state, the Commissioner of Police, Kebbi State Command, Mr Chris Aimionowane, assured the Governor that the vehicles would be used judiciously for the purpose they were meant for.
