Katsina govt graduates second batch of community watch corps

Katsina State Government has graduated 550 community watch corps members under the second batch of its programme to fight the menace of banditry and other social vices in the state.

The graduation and passing out of the community watch corps members was held at the College of Peace and Disaster Management in Katsina on Friday.

Addressing the new watch corps, Governor Dikko Umaru Radda said their dedication and commitment to the society’s security are highly commendable.

He explained that, the government objective since inception is to tackle the insecurity situation in the state, saying that, over the past years, “we have witnessed progress in our cause, we are proud to say that, we have neutralized different batches of bandits”.

“Over the past years, we have witnessed remarkable successes, crime rates have significantly decreased in areas where the community watch corps members have been active”.

“Communities where clouted by fears are now witnessing peace and stability, this is a testament that we can achieve with a common purpose, the gains of our fight against insecurity have reunited hundreds of kidnapped persons with their families”.

“We have neutralized several bandit’s leaders with their cells and many of them have sort negotiations with government. One of our primary objective was to allow our agrarian societies to engage in their agricultural activities this year in peace and stability “, he added.

Similarly, he said at the onset of the farming season, government launched a special thirty days’ operation which allowed farmers to access their farms and plant their crops, as well increased security throughout the season and launched another special thirty days’ operation to give farmers the room to harvest crops like guinea corn, beans and cotton.

“By working hand in hand with the police, military and other security agencies, we have enhanced intelligence sharing, improve response time and coordinated approach more effectively. This partnership has been instrumental in scuttling insecurity and will continue to be a corner stone of our strategy in moving forward”, he concluded.

Dr Nasir Mu’azu, the state Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, earlier said, the Governor is fulfilling one of his campaign promises of ensuring peace, economic development and posterity to the people.

According to him, it is in the cause of that, now people are witnessing the graduation and passing out of the batch 11 of the community watch corps.

CP Aliyu Musa, the state Commissioner of Police and the Assistant Commandant General, Babangida Dutsinma, in their separate remarks, appreciated the Governor’s commitment and contributions to the security agencies in the state.

ACG Babangida said, there is no time, the governor turns down their request for any assistance in the course of their duty.

He said, it’s in appreciation to that, the Commandant General Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps decided to honor the Katsina State Governor Malam Dikko Ummaru Radda.
