Alhaji Abdulkadir Nasir, the Special Adviser to Gov.Aminu Masari on Economic Empowerment Programme, disclosed this to newsmen on Wednesday in Katsina.
“The People Living With Disabilities (PLWDs) were given various types of loans under the state empowerment programme.
“The Directorate of Economic empowerment gave out a loan of N56.7 million to 1,890 (PLWDs) with each collecting N30, 000 to start his or her business.

“The Directorate also released another loan of N5.2 million to 35 PLWDs to operate telecommunication kiosks in the state with each given N150, 000,” he said.
“The loan components include one kiosk, one Generator, 50 plug charging board, 25 universal chargers, one tape recorder and N20, 000 worth of recharge cards, all mobile networks.
“We selected one PLWD from the 34 local government areas and gave him the telecommunication loan.
“We decided to give the PLWDs the loan to discourage them from begging on the street.”
Nasir disclosed several of the physical challenges had started repaying the loan, adding that the committee had commenced screening of others for disbursement of the second phase of the loan.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that the beneficiaries of the loan include, cripple, blind, dump and deft, drawn from the 34 local government areas of the state.
