Katsina development fund donates educational, medical equipment to nine LGAs

The Katsina State Development Fund (Godauniyar jihar Katsina) has donated various educational and medical equipment and furniture to health centres in nine local government areas in the state.

A total of 30 items were donated to each primary healthcare centre which includes complete surgical kits consisting of forceps, surgical gallery pots, needle holders, scissors and surgical trays as well as examination kits consisting of thermometers, stethoscopes and a BP apparatus.

Others include pediatric equipment, wash hand basins, bandages, plastic dustbins, hospital beds, mattresses and pillows, blankets, benches and stools among others.

While handing over the items to officials of the primary health care centers from Dutsinma, Safana, Charanchi, Danja, Musawa, Dandume, Bindawa and Kankia, the Chairman Board of Trustees of the Katsina State Development Fund, Alhaji Umaru Mutallab, urged them to put the items to effective use at their PHCs.

Represented by another BoT member of the fund, Alhaji Aliyu Musa Dangiwa, the BoT chairman said the items, worth six million naira, will complement efforts by the state and local governments at providing affordable healthcare services for communities in the state.

He noted that from 1993 to date, the fund has donated equipment to 388 health facilities across the state to the tune of over N30 million, to enhance healthcare service delivery in the state.

Similarly, the Katsina State Development Fund has donated books, furniture and building materials to 54 primary, secondary, islamiyya and Quranic schools across the state.

Schools that benefited from the gesture include six primary, six secondary and 42 Quranic and Islamiyya schools from Local Government Areas across the three senatorial zones of the states.

In a speech at the occasion, the Chairman Board of Trustees of the Katsina State Development Fund, Alhaji Umaru Mutallab, who’s represented by Hajiya Indo Muhammad listed the items donated including textbooks on various subjects that include mathematics, English grammar, English literature, economics, French as well as learning sessions on video CDs.

Mutallab explained that the gesture was made possible by a philanthropist who donated the sum of N30 million to the fund for the procurement of the items which were distributed to the schools.

He pointed out that from its inception in 1991 to date, the Katsina State Development Fund has expended over N13 million on intervention in formal schools and N79 million naira in assisting 2,599 islamiyya schools by constructing classroom blocks and donating books, furniture and building materials.

The BoT Chairman said the fund has also sponsored evening classes in primary schools to prepare pupils for the common entrance examination as well as merit awards to encourage academic excellence among pupils and students.

In his remarks, the Executive Secretary of the fund, Alhaji Ahmed Karfi, explained that since its inception, the fund has carried out wide-ranging interventions in the areas of education, healthcare, agriculture, women and youth empowerment and water supply.
