KASU would soon become best state university in Nigeria ― VC

THE Vice-Chancellor of the Kaduna State University, Professor Mohammed Tanko has said the institution will soon become the most sought-after State University in the country.

Speaking during the National Conference on Restructuring and Federalism organised by the Department of History recently, he said the university is working hard to change the ugly narrative associated with the ivory tower.

Represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Abdullahi Musa Ashafa he said, ‘it was the effort of the management of the University to change the ugly narrative associated with the ivory tower which the University had acquired in recent past.

‘We are doing our best to enforce the ethical values that are core in the foundation of the University. That is why the Senate has recently either expelled or rusticated over 30 students for various offences that violated our examination ethics.

He disclosed that the management was also working to make the University the second most sought-after State University in the country.

To this end, ‘We have introduced 10 new postgraduate programmes after the new NUC approval, we have established a School of Continuing Education that runs part-time courses and about 8 programmes have started.

Earlier, Prof Kabiru Mato, Commissioner for the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, noted that no amount of constitutional change would address Nigeria’s problems.

Mato stated this in a lead paper he presented at a conference with the theme, “Restructuring and Federalism in Nigeria”, opined that Nigeria’s problem would only be solved if Nigerians change their attitude towards one another for the good of the nation.

Mato, a Professor of Political Science with the University of Abuja, also said that no amount of constitutional change would be guaranteed the needed peace in the country except Nigerians embrace peace and accept one another as an equal member of the union.

According to him, good attitude towards one another is the foundation for the needed nationalism in the journey toward building a strong united nation.

“But due to a bad attitude, the country is bedevilled by corruption, religious and ethnic sentiment, and all forms of social ills which open the roof for numerous challenges.”
