Kashamu loyalists reoccupies party secretariat

Senator representing Ogun East in the Senate, Senator Buruji Kashamu

THE loyalists of the Senator representing Ogun East in the National Assembly, Prince Buruji Kashamu, has reclaimed the party secretariat taken over by the newly elected state executives.

Tribune Online recalled that the new executive members took over the secretariat on Monday following their inauguration after the last Saturday State Congress, held in Abeokuta.

The chairman of the Kashamu faction, Bayo Dayo, while addressing newsmen on Tuesday, described the new exco as “usurpers”, insisting that his executive would remain in office till 2020, based on the subsisting order of a competent court restraining the party from conducting fresh congresses in the state.

He explained that 17 people have been arrested in connection with the alleged invasion and that the suspects have been arraigned before court on Tuesday.

Dayo faulted the national caretaker chairman of the party, Senator Ahmed Markafi, for promoting illegality in the party as far as Ogun State is concerned, because of his presidential ambition.

He said: “The so-called congress in Ogun State is an illegality that cannot stand the test of the time and the law. Sooner or later, it will be nullified.

“This avoidable illegality was brought about because of Senator Ahmed Makarfi’s and Dayo Adeyeye’s inordinate ambitions. Both them want to capitalize on their temporary appointments to build structures and allies for their respective presidential and governorship ambitions.

“They are causing more troubles and crises for the party all over the country because of their selfish interests. From Adamawa to Kwara, Lagos to Ogun, Oyo to Osun, Ondo to Ekiti, the party is divided and embroiled in deeper crises than they purportedly set out to resolve”.

He, therefore, vowed that his group was ready to challenge the “illegality up to the highest court in the land”, urging party faithful to remain calm and continue mobilizing into the party ahead of the 2019 general election.
