The Sarki Yoruba community in Kano, Alhaji (Ambassador) Murtala Alimi Otisese (Adetimirin 1), has announced the formation of a N500 million fundraising campaign for the construction of a community palace for Yoruba residents in the state.
The funds to be raised are also intended for the construction of a residential quarter for staff, a school for the less privileged, and a multi-purpose hall that will serve as a community centre and revenue-generating space for the palace administration.
This was made known in a statement signed by Prince Zakariyau AbdulRasheed Rotimi, Palace Secretary, a copy of which was made available to the press on Tuesday in Kano.
Oba Murtala stated, “To achieve the ambitious fundraising target of N500 million, the committee comprises five members, with Chief Akande Omotayo Kazeem appointed as the chairperson and Chief Femi Smith Johnson serving as his assistant.”
According to him, “This project will not only enhance the palace’s operations but will also significantly contribute to the welfare of our people.”
The committee is tasked with overseeing the fundraising efforts for the construction of the new Oba’s Palace, a residential quarter for staff, a school for the less privileged, and a multi-purpose hall that will serve as a community centre and revenue-generating space for the palace administration.
“To truly serve our community, we must adapt and modernise our facilities and offerings,” stated Oba Murtala.
The committee will work diligently to organise events and programmes aimed at raising the necessary funds in a timely manner, ensuring the project’s swift commencement.
Kazeem remarked, “We are determined to mobilise support from our community and beyond, engaging everyone in this noble cause.”
The committee will begin its work immediately, laying the groundwork for events that will draw attention to the project and encourage contributions from both local and international donors. Oba Murtala also urged the Yoruba community in Kano to rally around this initiative, stating, “Together, we can create a lasting legacy that will benefit future generations and foster unity and progress within our community.”
