Kano traders, PCACC partner to address food inflation

The commodity dealers operating at the popular Singer Market, in an effort to address food inflation, have entered into a mutual agreement, with the Public Complaint and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC) to ensure that they maintain stable prices of goods in the market.

It be recalled that earlier stores belonging to the dealers were clampdown upon by officials of PCACC which led to an investigation that finally revealed commodity dealers at Singer Market are not party to hoarding of goods in the state.

This was just as the traders association agreed to sell old commodities bought at an old price and sell same at an old price.

Also, it be recalled that PCACC had recently seized some warehouses in some of the markets in Kano where items like rice, sugar, pasta, spaghetti, macaroni, and others are hoarded.

While speaking with press, the singer market dealers complained that the persistent rise in the prices of goods is not from them but from the companies that produce the goods to which they call for the intervention of the government to bring down the prices of the items.

One of the singer market leaders Alhaji Ibrahim Danyaro, while speaking with Journalists disclosed that they are going to work hand in hand with the commission to ensure that there is price control to ease life for people, not only in Kano but also those who come to buy from Kano.

According to him, “We are pleased to inform you that following the recent operation by the Anti-graft Commission we have come with invoices and other documents to prove to the commission that we are not in anyway engaged in hoarding of commodities at the Singer market.

“We have proved beyond reasonable doubt that we don’t engage in such. Our problem is from the producers of the goods. They are the ones increasing the prices unconditionally. What we buy today is not what we will buy tomorrow.

“We have reached an agreement with the commission, that we are not going to increase the prices of goods even as we sell below the company price.

“We want His Excellency the state governor to address this issue by meeting with the producers to get to the root of the consistent increase in prices”.

Also addressing a press, the Chairman of the PCACC, Muhyi Magaji Rimingado has reassured the hoarders that they are going to come after them and will not relent in their effort.

They have promised to cooperate with the Commission in ensuring that the prices of goods are maintained or even go down but do not rise anymore.

He added that the commodities they found hoarded at the sealed warehouses did not belong to the dealers of Singer Market.
