A 24-year-old man, Shamsu Yakubu, has been arrested by the Kano State Hisbah Board for allegedly performing a lewd act with a goat, an incident that drew widespread condemnation after a video of it surfaced on TikTok.
Reports gathered on Thursday indicated that Yakubu was taken into custody on Tuesday after appearing in a viral video where he was seen directing someone to film him while he allegedly licked the goat’s genitalia.
The disturbing footage, which spread rapidly on social media platforms, particularly TikTok, left many viewers outraged. In the clip, Yakubu reportedly explained his motive, saying, “I did it to trend on social media and become famous.”
Angered by the footage, some residents were said to have threatened to physically attack him before a local community leader intervened and alerted Hisbah officials.
Despite the video evidence, Yakubu denied committing the act during interrogation by Hisbah operatives in Kano. “I swear to Allah, I did not lick the goat’s genitals. I only put my mouth around the area,” he stated. He further pleaded, “I have never done this kind of thing before. I am in my right senses. This is my first time, and I won’t repeat it.”

Reacting to the incident, the Deputy Commander-General of the Hisbah Board, Sheikh Aminuddeen Abubakar, expressed deep concern over the suspect’s behaviour. “Sadly, a Muslim man will use his mouth to lick the genitalia of a goat, without regard to religious teachings and moral values,” he said.
Sheikh Aminuddeen also condemned what he described as the suspect’s quest for attention at the expense of moral decency, stating, “He’s only concerned about seeking dirty fame on social media. This is why we have ordered a psychiatric and drug evaluation on him to know his true state of mind.”
The Hisbah Board also announced plans to medically examine the goat. “Yes, we will take the goat to a veterinary clinic and test it for any disease it might have contracted from the suspect. And then we will test the suspect too before we prosecute him,” the official added.
He strongly warned others who might consider similar behaviour for online notoriety. “Anybody caught bathing in dirt or ash or charcoal under the guise of seeking popularity will be arrested and severely dealt with.”
