Kano State CAN chairman admonishes Christians over general election

THE chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria  (CAN), Kano State chairman, Reverend Samuel Adeolu Adeyemo, has called on Christians resident in Kano, not to panic  before or after the general election, saying he is confident that the election would be peaceful.

This is just as he urged Christians to continue to pray for the release of Leah Shuaibu and other Dapchi girls, who are in captivity.

Making the assertion after a – five- day prayer organised by CAN, which was held at Our Lady of Fatimah Church  Kano, urged them to remember the various challenges people passed through during 2015 general election,  warning them not to allow to recurrence.

“With our collective prayers and concerted efforts, God has heard our prayers and we are confident that the forthcoming elections will be violence-free.

He then urged them to not run away from Kano, “but stay in the state to cast your votes for any  candidate of your choice”, he said

Adeyemo also urged them not to sell their votes, noting that whoever did, has indirectly sold his/her birth -right.

He urged Christians to be united and always put national interest above all other personal views, stressing   that they should not allow selfish politicians to manipulate them.

He also tasked Christians not to relent in their prayers on the release of the young girl, Leah Suaibu and others Chibog ,who were in the hand of their kidnapped by Boko Haram

Meanwhile ,the  Resident Electoral Commissioner, (REC), Kano, Professor Riskuwa Arabu Shehu ,urged CAN to educate their people on the need do them to collect their  Permanent Voter Card  ( PVC) to do so, saying without the Card, nobody  would be allow to vote during election.

Professor Shehu who made the assertion at the end of 5-day-CAN prayer held at  Our Lady of Fatima Church ,Kano ,said, on going  distribution of PVC end last  Monday at ward levels ,saying however ,,uncollected one would be taken back to INEC state and all INEC offices in all 44 local a government areas of the state, for collection and would end on February 8th 2019

His words “for those who were unable to collect their PVC,we take them  back to state office and INEC local government office in all 44 local government areas of the state ,those who were unable to collect at  ward levels ,can go to there   to collect from 22nd 2019 and it would end on February 8th 2019 for collection

He however disclosed that those physical challenges and elders would be given preferences during election,they would not joint the  queue,  but would be given preferences to cast their vote at the polling unit
