Kano: Police assure adequate security during Ramadan

The Kano State Police Command congratulates the Muslim community on the occasion of the Holy Month of Ramadan and assures that adequate security arrangements have been made to ensure a peaceful and successful fasting period.

Additionally, the Command warns that all forms of thuggery (Daba) activities will not be tolerated during the holy month. Any person or group found engaging in such activities will be dealt with decisively and in accordance with the law.

This was contained in a press release signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, and made available to the press on Saturday in Kano.

The statement reads:

“In view of the increased influx of visitors from diverse backgrounds during Ramadan, the Police Command has re-strategized its security plan. The Command advises the public as follows:

Worshippers attending Tarawih prayers should refrain from carrying unnecessary objects, except for prayer mats, to minimize suspicion,” the statement said.
It added that people attending mosques and Tafsir centers should be extra cautious, take note of their surroundings, and report any suspicious items or movements to security agencies.

He also directed that motorists must obey traffic rules and regulations, avoiding reckless driving, overspeeding, and car racing to minimize accidents.

Furthermore, underage children and unlicensed individuals are prohibited from operating motor vehicles, tricycles, and motorcycles.

The statement urges parents and guardians to ensure that children are accompanied by adults throughout the fasting period to prevent cases of missing children and accidents.
Illegal horse riding, unlawful gatherings, and assemblies are banned. Permission from the appropriate authority is required for any gathering or assembly.
Ban on the Use of Fireworks and Knockouts/Bangers: The use of fireworks during the Ramadan period is strictly prohibited.
However, the public is advised to continue cooperating with security agencies, including the Federal Road Safety Corps, Civil Defense Corps, KAROTA, Hisbah, the Vigilante Group, and other civil volunteers.
