Kano: Police arrest three over N129.5bn fake currencies

Kano Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with N129.5 billion counterfeit money in the State.

This was just as the three suspects have yet to confess how they came about with the billions of counterfeit money in foreign denominations.

Speaking on behalf of the state commissioner of Police ( CP) Salman Dogo Garba, the Police Public Relation Officer ( PPRO) SP Haruna Kiyawa said all necessary security methods would be put in place to nab men of underworld.

Given the breakdown of the counterfeit money, the PPRO stated that these are $3,366,000, CFA51,970,000) N1,443,000.

He, however, disclosed that suspects were arrested for major crimes while recovering from them stolen properties, hard drugs, dangerous weapons, and different counterfeit currencies including dollars and cefa.

These approaches have resulted not only in apprehension of criminals but also deter potential offenders from engaging in criminal activities. Major cases of Kidnapping, Armed Robbery, Thuggery (Daba), and drug dealing have been surmounted.

Emerging cases of Fraud and cyber crimes have been busted, seasonal cases of petty crimes, farmers and herders clashes have been brought to the barest minimum while adequate security deployments have been made at Rimi Market and Kofar Mata to curtail the recent rivalry fights between youths of Kofar Mata, Zage and neighboring areas.

However, we acknowledge that there is still work to be done as we must sustain the tempo, and we will remain committed to continuously improving our efforts and strengthening our partnership with other security agencies and the community to ensure that Kano State remains a beacon of safety and security for residents and visitors alike.

In addition, on this ember month that is characterised by increase in people and vehicular movement, improved business activities, and celebrations, the command has made adequate security arrangements to ensure safe environment for all activities to unfold smoothly.
