The Kano police command has arrested four suspected armed bandits, three of whom allegedly came from Katsina state to Kano for the purpose of purchasing an AK-47 rifle.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, shared this information during a press briefing at the Command’s Headquarters in Bompai, Kano.
He stated that the suspects were apprehended based on credible intelligence regarding their plans to procure the firearm.
The suspects were intercepted at Chula Filling Station while in possession of over one million naira in cash, which is believed to be intended for the arms transaction.
During the operation, security operatives recovered three locally made revolver pistols, as well as knives, cutlasses, and charms.
SP Kiyawa also mentioned that the suspects are currently under investigation at the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID). He added that after the inquiry is completed, they will be charged in court.
“This achievement is a testament to the Command’s commitment to tackling the infiltration of banditry to the State and other forms of criminality,” he said.
He emphasized that the operation aligns with the directives of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun aimed at strengthening security measures and eliminating criminal activities across the country.
