Kano: Police arrest 17 suspected thugs over ‘planned violent protest’

The Kano police command has arrested 17 suspected thugs over a planned violent protest, warning that the command is committed to ensuring that the perpetrators of this planned violence are brought to justice.

“The Command wishes to warn all individuals and groups against engaging in any form of unlawful gathering, procession, or violence. Such actions will be met with a swift and decisive response from the security agencies.”

This was just as a heavy presence of security operatives was seen at every location and entrance leading to Nasssrawa Palace, where Emir Aminu Ado Bayero is residing.

This was contained in a statement signed by the police spokesperson, SP Haruna Kiyawa, a copy of which was made available on Wednesday to the press in Kano.

The statement reads: “Following credible intelligence reports of a planned violent protest by some individuals, the Command, in collaboration with other security agencies, has deployed personnel and assets to strategic locations within Kano Metropolis to prevent the protest and ensure public safety.

The Kano State Police Command wishes to inform the public that adequate security measures have been put in place to prevent any potential breakdown of law and order in the state.
