Kano pilgrim admitted during 2023 Hajj dies in Makkah hospital

Published by

The Kano State Pilgrims Welfare Board has confirmed the death of a 75-year-old pilgrim of the state, Umar Hamza, in Makkah, who was admitted to Saudi Hospital since the 2023 Hajj.

It will be recalled that at a press conference marking the commencement of the 2024 Hajj operation recently, the Director General of the Board, Alhaji Laminu Rabi’u Danbappa, said late Hamza had been admitted to a hospital in Makkah after falling sick during the 2023 Hajj.

According to him, a member of his family was sponsored to travel to Makkah to look after the deceased when he was admitted.

But in a statement signed by the spokesman of the board, Sulaiman Dederi, on Friday, Danbappa announced the death of the late Hamza, adding that he died on Thursday in the Makkah hospital.

He disclosed that the deceased, from Gaya Local Government, died after a protracted illness at the age of 75.

The statement, however, added that the DG announced the death in Gaya Local Government at the residence of the deceased.

“Alh, Laminu Danbappa, who expressed sadness over the demise of Alh Umar Hamza, described the deceased as an Islamic schooler. He sympathised with his family over that loss.

The statement noted that “The Director General, on behalf of the management of the Board, extended his deepest condolences to Jafar Umar Hamza, son of the deceased, other bereaved family members, as well as the entire Muslim Ummah.”

He then prayed to Almighty Allah to grant the deceased eternal rest and his family the fortitude to bear the huge loss,” the statement concluded.
