Kano non-indigenes troop out to witness commissioning of N644m court road

RESIDENTS of Sabongari in the city of Kano, who were predominantly non-indigenes, trooped out in large number to witness the commissioning of the famous Court Road, which was rehabilitated and dualised at the cost of over N644 million by the state governor, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

Most of the roads in Sabongari area had been due for rehabilitation. However, the Ganduje administration, just within six months of assumption of office, resolved to embark on total rehabilitation of the court road to demonstrate that his government was ready to work.

Speaking during the commissioning of the project, the governor , Dr Ganduje, said the dualisation and completion of the famous Court road in an area predominantly inhabited by non-indigenes in Sabongari  cost government over N644 million, just as he charged the residents of the area not to regard themselves as non-indigenes.

The governor also called on the residents of the area to shun any act capable of jeopardising the prevailing peace being enjoyed in the state.

Making the assertion while commissioning and renaming the court road after the Imo State governor, Dr Rochas Okorocha , he said the present government was for the teeming masses of the state, irrespective of tribe or religious affiliations.

He noted that the road was financed and executed through Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), calling on the residents of the area to always pay their tax as and when due, to assist government do more development projects

His words, ‘’When our government came on board, the rehabilitation of Court road was amongst roads we lined up for rehabilitation and we thank Almighty Allah that we were not only able to complete it, but it was also dualised and provided with light’

Governor Okorocha, while speaking at the occasion, thanked the governor, saying he had proved himself a principle-minded governor, who abhorred parochial interest and based his ideology on fairness and justice

Also speaking at the occasion, the Eze Ndigbo of Kano, Chief Boniface Ibekwe, said the rehabilitation and completion of Court road by Governor Ganduje‘s administration eroded the belief of the residents in the area that the government did not like the non-indigenes .

He further disclosed that to their surprise, the incumbent governor of the state called on them not to regard themselves as non–indigenes, but should address themselves as ethnic associations

Also in his contribution, Chief Jimpat Ayelangbe, the president of ethnic association in the state, commended the state governor over the laudable projects completed within a short time.

Chief Ayelangbe added that the commissioning of the road had opened another chapter in the mind of residents of Sabongari who, he said, had been yearning for better projects to be executed in the area.
