In an effort to stem the rampant cases of drug abuse in Kano, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano command, and the Nigerian Army have announced a strategic partnership to tackle the issue of drug abuse in the State.
This was contained in a statement signed on Thursday by the NDLEA spokesman, Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari, a copy made available to press in Kano
However, the statement disclosed that ” this collaboration was discussed during a courtesy visit by the newly posted Brigade Commander 3 Brigade, Brigadier General MA Sadiq, to the state commander of NDLEA, Kano State Command, Abubakar Idris Ahmad”
The Public Relation Officer of the command further disclosed that ” During the visit, Brigadier General Sadiq emphasised the pivotal role of NDLEA in addressing contemporary security challenges, as a significant number of crimes are committed under the influence of drugs
Brig. Gen Sadiq then stressed the need for a strong alliance between the Nigerian Army and NDLEA to effectively combat drug abuse in Kano.
While responding to the state commander of NDLEA, Abubakar Idris Ahmad, expressed his gratitude for the visit and acknowledged the importance of the Nigerian Army’s support in the fight against drug abuse.
He therefore highlighted the detrimental impact of drug abuse on society, including commission of crimes and family disintegration.
The state commander assured the brigade commander of NDLEA’s unwavering commitment to this partnership and expressed optimism that, with the support of the Nigerian Army, substantial progress would be made in the fight against drug abuse in Kano.
Both commanders agreed on the necessity of intelligence sharing, joint operations, and capacity-building programs to tackle the root causes of drug abuse and prevent its further spread in Kano.
The visit concluded with a pledge from both commanders to work closely together and develop a comprehensive strategy to combat drug abuse in the state.
However, both emphasised the importance of raising awareness among the public and called on community leaders, religious organizations, and other stakeholders to join the fight against drug abuse.
This collaboration between NDLEA and the Nigerian Army in Kano signifies a united front against drug abuse and a shared commitment to safeguarding the state from the adverse consequences of substance abuse.
