Kano ministry official arrested for alleged public utility theft

Published by

Kano State Police Commissioner Mohammed Usaini Gumel has confirmed the arrest of the Director of Administration and General Services, Kano State Ministry of Water Resources, Alhaji Abubakar Gambo, and two others for alleged theft of public utilities.

Disclosing this while speaking with pressmen, Mr Gumel added that other suspects in police custody are Baba Yahaya, Assistant Secretary of Administration, and Nuhu Mansir, former manager of the Karefa Irrigation Scheme of Tudun Wada Local Government Council.

According to him, three persons were suspected to have forged a letter authorising the auction of some high-capacity water pumps belonging to the Kano State Government.

He stated that the outright denial by the Commissioner of Water Resources had confirmed that the auction authorisation was a fraud and is now under investigation.

His words, “We are investigating the matter, and as soon as the investigation is concluded, the suspects will be charged to court,”

However, the Commissioner of Police has called on all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), and other tactical teams of the command to ensure compliance with the provisions of the Force Order and to prepare adequate security for all residents ahead of the upcoming end-of-year festivities.

During a lecture organised by the Command, Gumel emphasised the provisions of Force Order No. 20 as amended with the aim of the Police Duty Solicitor Scheme (PDSS) as captured in the Force Order.

He charged officers to ensure strict adherence to the laid-down procedures for providing legal services and the function of the Human Rights Desk at police formations.
