Kano govt to arrest tricycles without tracking devices

Published by

THE Kano State Road and Traffic Agency (KAROTA) has said that sequel to a Kano State High Court ruling on Tuesday, the agency has vowed to arrest and prosecute anyone found operating a tricycle without the tracking device earlier introduced by the agency.

It will be recalled that a high court presided over by Justice Jamilu Shehu on Tuesday dismissed a suit by one Abdullahi Mai Sanko who filed a case against the agency claiming the violation of his fundamental human rights and accusing the agency of failing to provide him with the tracking device he paid for but was issued a sticker instead.

The agency during the hearing of the case proved that what it provided Abdullahi and others was indeed a tracking device and not a sticker as he claimed.

In a statement signed by the Public Relation Officer of KAROTA, Comrade Nabilusi Abubakar on Tuesday said, “Convinced by KAROTA’s evidence, Justice Shehu dismissed the petition and gave the agency the go-ahead to continue with the issuance of the tracker.”

The Managing Director, Baffa Babba Dan’agundi described the ruling as yet another victory for the agency in its efforts towards ensuring law and order on the state roads.

He called on all tricycle operators and other commercial vehicle operators concerned to comply with the KAROTA law and ensure their vehicles are fully captured, failure to do so will lead to arrest and prosecution.
