Kano govt nabs suspected quack doctor

KANO State government has apprehended a suspected quack doctor, Dr Ibrahim Adamu, who for many years claimed to be a licenced doctor.

The arrest was made during a joint operation by an agency under the ministry of health, Kano State Private Health Institution Management Agency (PHIMA) and the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) Kano branch.

This was made known in a statement signed and issued to pressmen by the public relation officer (PRO), ministry of health, Alhaji Ismail Garba Gwammaja, on Monday.

The Executive Secretary of the agency, Dr Usman Tijjani Aliyu, said the agency has been following the suspect for long but all efforts proved aborted until now.

The because he was moving from hospitals to clinics in Kano and even the neighbouring states.

Dr Aliyu further said already the suspect is in police custody for further investigation.

At the police station, the Adamu confessed that the original document belongs to one medical doctor who had sought job placement at the hospital where he (Adamu) earlier worked as a staff. He said he overtly stole the document.

Checks revealed that the suspect had been apprehended and prosecuted by the same agency in 2014 at Koki Magistrate Court and he was jailed for committing the same offence.

Aliyu and the NMA, however, said they will make sure that they follow the case promptly to ensure that the suspect is dealt with squarely in order to serve as a detriment to others.

Dr Aliyu also enjoined the people to be vigilant of the activities of suspect fake doctors, adding the people to report any suspected action that is not normal to the agency for quick action.
