Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has sought the support of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to enhance agricultural production and mitigate the effects of climate change in the state.
This was just as the Governor added that this partnership aims to leverage the Netherlands’ expertise in agriculture and climate change management to drive growth and sustainability in Kano.
Governor Yusuf disclosed this during a meeting with Ms Eva De Wit, First Secretary Migration, at the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Nigeria
However, this was contained in a statement signed by the Director of media and publicity to the Governor, Alhaji Sunusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, a copy of which was made available to the press on Wednesday in Kano
Gov Yusuf then expressed his admiration for the Netherlands’ impressive achievements in agriculture and climate change management and his desire to replicate these successes in Kano.
He also highlighted his administration’s initiatives to refocus the productivity of the youth population in Kano, enhance food security, and address the devastating impact of drug abuse inherited from the previous administration.
According to him, “The 24 skill acquisition centres have been reopened to empower youth and 713 youth, have been reformed and rehabilitated from thuggery activities through collaboration with the Nigerian Police.
Ms De Wit, accompanied by the Chief of Mission, International Organisation for Migration, Mr Laurent De Boeck, pledged to collaborate with the Kano State Government in areas such as youth empowerment, food security, and climate change.
