Kano gov dissolves 44 LG caretaker committee chairmen

Published by

Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has dissolved the caretaker chairmen of all 44 local government areas in the state.

He stated, “This dissolution applies to all chairmen, vice chairmen, secretaries, and councillors.”

The governor announced the decision during a special meeting held at the Africa House, Government House, Kano.

Governor Yusuf explained that the dissolution came just a week after the Kano State House of Assembly had approved a two-month extension to the tenure of the caretaker chairmen, which was set to expire on September 8, 2024.

However, he disclosed that the extension, slated to run from September 9 to November 9, 2024, was deemed necessary to ensure continuity in local governance.

“With local government elections scheduled for October 26, 2024, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf directed the caretaker chairmen to hand over leadership to their respective Directors of Personnel Management,” he said.

Governor Yusuf also expressed gratitude to the caretaker chairmen for their contributions to the development of their areas and hinted at potential future collaborations.

In response, the caretaker chairmen thanked the governor for the opportunity to serve their communities.

“We are warning the DPMs to ensure they do not interfere in any political activities, as they are expected to conduct themselves as respected civil servants,” the governor added.

Finally, the governor urged them to perform their duties with integrity and directed the anti-corruption agency to arrange a seminar to enhance their capacity and prevent any misconduct or harm.
