Kano fixes LG elections date, mandates drug tests for candidates

The Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) has announced that local government elections in Kano State will be held on November 30, 2024.

This decision follows a Supreme Court ruling that granted local government autonomy and mandated the appointment of substantive local government chairmen.

During a press conference on Wednesday, KANSIEC Chairman Professor Sani Malunfashi revealed the election date and highlighted new measures for the upcoming polls.

He stated that all candidates will be required to undergo drug tests before being cleared to run for office.

Additionally, Malunfashi warned that any candidate attempting to bribe him or influence the election results would be exposed.

He assured the public that the election would be conducted in a free, fair, and credible manner.

The last local government elections in Kano State took place on January 16, 2021, covering 44 local government areas and 484 wards.
