Kano-based NGO organises two-day workshop on peacebuilding for Bauchi Journalists

A Kano-based organisation, Dar Al Andalus Centre for Conflict Resolution and Peacebuilding is organising a two-day workshop for Journalists in Bauchi state on peacebuilding and journalism practice. 

The workshop which is on “Peace Journalism” Comprising: “Sharia Intelligence, Constructive Alternative Narratives and the Role of Journalism in the Prevention of Extremism and Violence” is scheduled to hold on Monday, May 20th and Tuesday, May 21, 2024. 

According to Ja’afar Isa Dauda, Programme Manager, Dar Al Andalus Centre (DAAC) is a Kano-based non-governmental organisation working in the area of peacebuilding and conflict resolution. 

It was established about six years ago, during which it has concentrated its activities on workshops, seminars and skills training for Ulama and Clergy (Religious Leaders), Traditional Rulers, Community Leaders, women, youths, IDPs and Journalists. 

The aim is to strengthen the capacity of organisations and individuals to counter extremism and violence through providing constructive alternative narratives.

The Programme Manager added that “Based on the vital role media practitioners play in interpreting news and events for their audiences, the Centre is organising a 2-day workshop on “PEACE JOURNALISM: Sharia Intelligence, Constructive Alternative Narratives and the Role of Journalism in the Prevention of Extremism and Violence.” 

According to him, all the selected Journalists who are to partake in the two-day workshop were selected based on positive recommendations.

He stated, “This training is organised in consonance to the global concept of ‘Peace Building’ which the UN has defined as “Aiming to reduce the risk of lapsing or relapsing into violent conflict by strengthening the capacities at all levels for conflict management, and to lay the foundation for sustainable peace and development.” 

He added that Resource persons include Shaikh Nuru Lemu (IET Minna); Prof. Mansur Yelwa (BUK Law); and Dr. Abubakar Alhassan (BUK Mass Comm); among others.

He then urged all the participants to commit and dedicate the entire two days to the workshop to achieve maximum results.
