The Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC) has arrested and detained a Senior Special Assistant to the governor, Mustapha Maifada, and three local government staff over alleged diversion of N105 million.
According to sources, the three council staff were instructed to give N105,000 to the Senior Special Assistant for a program but instead issued a cheque of N105 million to the governor’s aide in November 2024.
The commission commenced an investigation into the alleged diversion of funds after receiving information from a dragnet set up to monitor local government finances.
During interrogation, the detained council staff claimed the payment was a mistake, but the antigraft agency refused to accept this explanation.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that the Senior Special Assistant may have used the diverted funds to purchase properties.
The antigraft commission is continuing its investigation and may prosecute the detainees after concluding its inquiry.
Efforts to reach the antigraft commission chairman, Muhuyi Magaji Rimingado, for comments were unsuccessful.
