residents of Unguwar Katafawa in Goni Gora area of Chikun local government of Kaduna State have lauded the state government for the construction of a bridge linking it with other parts of the metropolis.
Speaking with the Nigerian Tribune in an interview, a woman leader in the community, Mrs Mary John, remarked that over the years, flood had caused havoc to the area because of poor drainages and absent of a modern bridge.
“During the raining season, the entire place was flooded by water, making it extremely difficult for the people to move.
“In fact, the heavy down-pour had destroyed several houses. And as you can see, some houses are. We are happy that the present government under el-Rufai has awarded a contract for the construction of a bridge.
“What we want government to do is to complete the bridge on time before the coming raining season. Once it is done, there would be a lot of economic activities,” she said.
Speaking on the project, the state commissioner for Works, Alhaji Hassan Usman, remarked that the bridge would be completed in time.
According to him, the state government had identified many communities that were facing serious environmental challenges within the metropolis and environs, saying, government is determined to address the challenges.
He appealed to the people to be patient with government as it was doing everything humanly possible to complete the bridge.
