Nasir el-Rufai, Kaduna State Governor
The speaker, Kaduna State House of assembly, Alhaji Aminu Shagali, should intervene in the case of civil servants sacked by the governor of the state, Malam Nasir el-Rufai.
Nobody can deny the fact that considerable success has been recorded in the exercise through the flushing out of ghosts workers.
However, the recent compulsory retirement of 4,042 local government staff whom the state governor called redundant workers is untimely.
It has come at the wrong time considering the economy recession that continues to bite hard in the country.
Mr. Speaker Sir, the members of the state House of Assembly are representatives of the people of state and need to act fast on the issue.
The implications of the massive sack of workers in the state are huge.
First, the insecurity that pervades the state may likely increase due to the thousands of sacked workers who would flood the already saturated labour market.
Second, many of the sacked civil servants cannot feed their families because they have been thrown out of work with no alternatives.
Third, there may be frustration and premature death among the workers due to health-related problems.
Looking at these issues, the state House of Assembly under your leadership should hurriedly come to the aid of the affected workers.
They are not redundant. They want to work but the system is very defective.
The governor should channel his energy and time into reforming the local governments and releasing adequate funds for them to carry out development programmes.
