Kaduna govt hints of strengthening collaboration with NUJ

Kaduna State Government has hinted at its readiness to strengthen collaboration and maintain a good working relationship with the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kaduna council.

This was made known by the Special Adviser on Media and Communication to Governor Nasir El-Rufai, Muyiwa Adekeye when the NUJ executive members paid a working visit to the Sir Kashim Ibrahim Government House, Kaduna on Wednesday.

He explained that the priority of the government is to ensure that the citizens of the state are adequately informed about the government policies and the progress attained.

While extolling the role of the media in keeping the people abreast of the happenings around the society, he maintained that it is important practitioners build their capacity through information sharing.

The Media aide further explained that in the past the state government had trained Public Relations Officers (PROs), Directors and Permanent Secretaries of Ministries, and Journalists on effective communication as part of strategy to understand government policies .

He assured that Kaduna government will redouble its efforts to strengthen as well as to ensure that good working relationship is being sustained between the state and the Union.

Earlier, the Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists Kaduna State Council, Comrade Asma’u Yawo Halilu said her leadership is committed to the promotion of professionalism that journalism is known for.

To this end, she said her Council would not in any way support sensational, divisive, and fake news, saying, rather we will encourage practising journalists to be objective in their reports and uphold the ethics of the profession.
