Kaduna govt denies recruiting 7,900 teachers

The Kaduna state government has denied reports that the present administration of Governor Uba Sani has recruited 7,900 teachers to boost the education sector.

In a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the state governor, Ibraheem Musa, the government explained that the Commissioner of Education, Professor Muhammad Sani Bello, was misquoted.

He said, “The Commissioner addressed the media at the maiden edition of our Quarterly Ministerial Press Briefing, but at no time did he make that statement.”

While acknowledging the reports on the recruited teachers might have been a slip of the pen, the governor’s spokesperson charged journalists on accuracy.

Recall that the Commissioner of Education, Professor Muhammad Sani Bello, had during a quarterly ministerial press briefing organised by the office of the Principal Private Secretary for ministries and agencies at Sir Kashim Ibrahim Government, Kaduna, maintained that all programmes and policies of the present administration were carried out in line with the governor’s campaign promises.

According to him, the administration has constructed more schools and additional classrooms, as well as improving the quality of learning in the state.

“At the basic education level under SUBEB, more than 600 classrooms have been constructed since the beginning of this administration and quite a number are being renovated and the era of having students studying in an environment that is not conducive for learning has been averted,’’ he said.

The commissioner further praised Governor Uba Sani’s commitment to education, which, according to him, was evident in the governor’s first Executive Order reducing tuition fees in all state-owned tertiary institutions.
