Kaduna crisis: Set back in the quest for lasting peace ― Makarfi

PRESIDENTIAL aspirant under the recently concluded Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) convention, Senator Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi has described the recent clash in the State as a set back to the quest for lasting peace.

In a statement issued to the press on Tuesday and signed his spokesman, Muktar Sirajo, the former governor of Kaduna State remarked that he was pained that after having come this far, some of our people still find it difficult to settle disputes without resorting to violence.

He noted that with all the history at our disposal, which teaches us that much as human society cannot permanently live without one form of conflict or another, resorting to arms has never been the solution.

Senator Makarfi appealed to the people to always eschew violence and embrace the time-tested process of constructive engagement through dialogue with one another, which has always proven to be a more effective and sustainable conflict resolution mechanism.

The Senator commended the role played by the various security agencies, as well as community and religious leaders in facilitating a return to normalcy.

He also condoled with the government and people of Kaduna State and families who lost dear ones even as he also commiserated with those injured and others who suffered losses on account of the unfortunate incidents.
