The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC), Nuhu Goroh Shadalafiya, winner of Kagarko state constituency rerun election into the Kaduna House of Assembly held on Saturday.
Shadalafiya, a former deputy speaker of the assembly polled 24,658 votes to defeat Morondia Tanko of PDP who scored 20,206 votes.
The local government collation and returning officer for the election, Dr Haruna Aminu, said: “Shadalafiya won the election, having satisfied the law and scored the highest number of votes.”
Recall that the Court of Appeal had ordered for a rerun in 22 units of three wards in Kagarko constituency following a suit by Shadalafiya of the APC challenging Tanko’s victory in the March 9th election at the Elections Tribunal.

The Appeal Court in Kaduna while affirming the judgement of the Election Tribunal on Tuesday, November 19, dismissed Tanko’s appeal which challenged the lower court’s judgement.
In a related development, Mrs Comfort Amwe of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was declared the winner of the election for Sanga constituency.
Amwe scored 19,815 votes to defeat Hon Haliru Gambo of APC who polled 19,688 votes in the keenly contested election.
The declaration was made by INEC Returning Officer for Sanga constituency, Dr Sani Sadiq Kubau.
Some of the voters who spoke after casting their votes described the election as peaceful, free and fair, adding that there was no security breach before and after the final election result was declared.
