Kaduna: Again, four killed

FOUR people have been reported dead in the early hours of Monday morning in Kaduna when they clash with security personnel.

This was even as the 24-hour curfew imposed by the Kaduna State government is still in force.

It will be recalled that crisis has erupted in some parts of the state capital on Sunday when some irate youths blocked some major roads in the state capital.

And in a quick response, the state government imposed a curfew and deployed soldiers to flashpoints areas.

Most of the areas affected were Kujama, Kamazo, Sabo, Narayi, Bakin ruwa, Magajin Gari and Ahmadu Bello way all in Kaduna metropolis.

At Narayi area of the metropolis which is one of the flashpoints, heavy security presence was seen.

Residents who preferred to speak under anonymity remarked that three youths were killed by some of the security personnel who were sent to restore order in the area.

According to the residents, the community had mobilised themselves to guard the community against any intruder entering the community because of the curfew.

While, in another area of the metropolis, one corpse was discovered in a ditch by the residents of Kamazo in the early hours of Monday morning.

However, the identity of the deceased could not be confirmed as at the time of filing this report.

When contacted, the State Commissioner of Police, Ahmad Abdulrahman, has confirmed the incident saying that investigation into the matter has commenced.

He noted that some group of youths had attacked a team of soldiers deployed to the area to maintain law and order with some dangerous weapons when they were asked to go back, and in the process three among them were shot.

The police boss, however, explained that normalcy has returned to the area following the deployment of more security personnel.

Meanwhile, the state governor, Mallam Nasiru El-rufai had visited most of the troubled areas in the early hours of Monday morning to assess the level of violence that erupted in the state capital.

Among the early places he visited were the Saint Gerard’s Hospital and Barau Dikko specialist hospital were he consoled with the survivors of the recent mayhem assuring them of the state government resolved to protect the lives and property of the citizens of the state.

He also visited bakin ruwa, kujama, kawo and Kasuwar magani were he met with the populace and called on them to sheath their swords and embrace peace for the development of the state.

The governor it was learnt will make a special radio broadcast on Monday over the crisis that engulfed the state since on Thursday.
