The Managing Director, Cross River Tourism Bureau, Prince Ojoi Ekpenyong, has said that the Kada Cinema located at Marina Resort, Calabar, is still operational.
Ekpenyong said this on Sunday following the fire that destroyed part of the cinema on February 17.
The fire incident believed to have been caused by electrical surge, partially destroyed the entertainment centre some months after it was renovated.
Ekpenyong said the cinema was not completely burned down as claimed on the social media.
“Our attention has been drawn to news making the rounds particularly on social media platforms purporting that the Kada Cinemas, Calabar had been completely burnt down following a fire outbreak in one of its studios.
“There was a fire outbreak in one of the studios due to electrical surge on Saturday, February 17, at about 10:20 p.m.
“The fire incident was contained in Studio 4 where the flames broke out and did not impact on other areas.
“Therefore, we wish to put it on record that the Kada Cinemas is not burnt down as it was reported because other section like the VIP, Studios 1, 2 and 3 are not affected,” Ekpenyong said.
While commending the Export Processing Zone’s fire fighters for their prompt intervention, Ekpenyong further confirmed that the management is working with relevant agencies to determine what led to the fire incident.
