Ronke Sokefun and Festus Keyamo
The Senate on Wednesday confirmed Ronke Sokefun as Chairman of the Nigerian Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC), Festus Keyamo, Garba Bello, Josef Okoloagu, Mustapha Mudashiru and Adewale Adeleke as members of the corporation.
A presidential nominee, Garba Buba, who did not show up for the screening, was, however, not confirmed.
Keyamo, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), had earlier been appointed as the spokesperson for President Muhammadu Buhari reelection campaign organisation.
On May 8, 2018, President Buhari, had written to the Senate to seek the confirmation of the appointment of Mr Keyamo and the others for the NDIC job, but their confirmation came after the Senate’s adoption of the report of its committee on Banking, Insurance and other Financial Institutions.
Earlier before their official ratification by the Senate, a People’s Democratic Party (PDP) senator from Kwara State, Rafiu Ibrahim, who presented the report, said Keyamo and other nominees had been cleared by the Code of Conduct Bureau.
According to Ibrahim, the nominees after their screening were discovered to be “resourceful, diligent, articulate, competent, and have the knowledge to work in the positions for which they were nominated and also possess the needed value in the operations of the board of the NDIC.”
