Jumia Nigeria projects expansion plans in 2024

As parts of its expansion plans in Nigeria, Jumia has disclosed that in year 2024, it will activate new city routes in Nigeria.

Africa’s leading e-commerce platform, noted that considering  Nigerian huge population, plans are underway to expand into other cities with population in the region of 20,000 people.

Francis Dufay,  the Chief Execitive Officer of Jumia Group, informed journalist while announcing the new CEO of Jumia Nigeria, Sunil Natraj.

He said Nigeria remained the company’s biggest growth opportunity in Africa, adding that retail trade remained largely underdeveloped saying the company was pushing hard to serve underserved communities.

Dufay who expressed optimism about the future of the business in Nigeria, said the company is investing in putting its foot on ground in the country to deepen the embrace of e-commerce

While noting that the country remained a huge market for consumers with millions yet to be convinced about the comfort, peace of mind and ease that come with e-commerce, Natraj said the company is planning to deploy sales teams to educate people in communities where the brand or e-commerce is not popular or has no presence.

According to him, the goal of the cities’ activation is to expand the brand beyond Lagos and ensure it is perceived as a true Nigerian company, adding that Ibadan and Akure routes are likely the first to receive priority, as plans increase for further cities activation.

Also speaking, outgoing CEO Massimiliano Spalazzi, said though the year had been challenging with hitches occasioned with cash scarcity, fuel subsidy removal and currency devaluation, the company has remained focused on the consumers, ensuring quality product availability at affordable prices.

While expressing hope in the coming year, he said the company is working to reduce shipping cost, sustainability and profitability.
