Former Abia State Governor, Dr Orji Uzor Kalu
THE scheduled trial of former Governor of Abia State, Dr Orji Uzor Kalu, and two others over alleged fraud before Justice Mohammed Idris of Federal High Court, Lagos was on Monday adjourned till October 3 due to the absence of the judge.
It was gathered that Justice Idris is currently in Abuja for official assignment attending a judges’ conference.
Kalu Udeh Jones Udeogu and Slok Nigeria Limited were on October 31, 2016, arraigned before the court by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on a 34-count charge of alleged N3.2 billion fraud, but they pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecution so far, has called five witnesses to prove it’s case against the defendants but none has been able to link Dr Kalu to the crime.
At the last sitting, the fifth witness of EFCC, Toyosi Ekorhi, told the court that she had no input in the documents tendered against the defendants.
