Metuh appearing in court on a stretcher, on Monday, February 5, 2018.
Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has said the controversial Federal High Court Judge, Okon Abang, ridiculed Nigeria by causing an accused, former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olisa Metuh, to be brought to court on a stretcher.
Fayose, who condemned the action, said: “The judge was acting more like a persecutor in the case.”
“In saner climes, all that is needed as proof of inability to stand trial due to ill health is a doctor’s report from duly recognised health institution, and one wonders whether medical report from the Federal Government-owned Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital, Nnewi, Anambra State, should not have been enough to convince Justice Abang that Metuh was indeed sick.
After Metuh’s dramatic appearance in court, Governor Fayose reacting in a statement issued on Tuesday, by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere OIayinka, queried why didn’t he (Abang) dock Metuh with the stretcher on which he was brought to court on Tuesday?
“We, therefore, call on the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Walter Onnoghen to do something on Abang to save the bench in the hand of judges like him,” Fayose said.
