THERE was jubilation in Alor-Agu community in December when a Supervisory councillor for Education in Igboeze-South Local Government Council, Mr Emmanuel Jonathan and his wife, Nkechinyerem, a pharmacist, provided free medical treatment to the Under privileged in the community.
It was gathered that the free medical care was the first of its kind given by an indigene of the community and was anchored by a team of medical practitioners from Medical Volunteer Service Group (MEVOLSERV) base in Enugu Government House Clinic.
The free medical treatment was also opened for two days to all the neighbouring communities of Alor- Agu, namely Umuida, Unadu, Agu- Ibeje, Umu- Ushene, Umu- Opuagu all from Igboeze-South and Igboeze-North local government areas of the state.
While lacking off the programme tagged: “Ugwuanyi Cares” Free Medical Treatment; Jonathan said they were motivated to render medical care to the indigent ones and rural dwellers in the society who ordinarily would not have been able to seek medical attention in a hospital due to lack of funds.
He said that the programme was also in honour and in support of the humanitarian disposition of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu state adding that it would go a long way in giving life to the sick ones.
The supervisor said that God has been faithful to his family in all ramifications and the need to keep thanking God, adding that the programme was also a way of saying thank you to God for his love his family.
He said, “Left for the money I am paid at the council as a Supervisory Councilor in the Transition Committee of my Local Government, I will not even think of organizing this programme because the money does not even get to my home as I use it to address demands of people who keep coming with one problem or the other.
