Journalists charged on reporting family, public health issues

Working journalists in Bauchi State who are passionate about family and public health issues have been charged to always advocate for the attention of the government and other health-related agencies to the sector.

The call was made by Akinlolu Akinpelumi of DevComm Network during the inauguration of Bauchi State Chapter of the Bauchi Public Health Media Network held at the end of a 3 days training for journalists on reporting family health with a focus on childbirth spacing (CBS).

He stressed that as the only sector that people are looking forward to for accurate information, the media cannot be found wanting but should rather be seen to be doing everything possible to advocate for attention on the health sector.

Akinlolu Akinpelumi further charged the inaugurated members to immediately swing into action through a series of reports that will create awareness on family and public health issues especially myths and misrepresentations of the childbirth spacing process.

He then assured that the DevComm Network will collaborate with other NGOs in order to support the Media Network with logistics to be able to carry out its advocacy programs within the next few months.

In her speech, Chairperson of the Bauchi Public Health Media Network, Afsa Bulak of the NTA assured that the chapter will immediately swing into action to ensure that the objectives of the network were met.

Afsa Bulak further assured that the conference reposed on the members will not be betrayed as they are ready to work with other partners and agencies in the health sector to ensure that family and public health issues were adequately reported by the media for action.

The Bauchi Public Health Media network is made up of working journalists from both electronic and print media who have an interest in family and public health issues.

Pioneer officials are, Bulak Afsa of NTA as chairperson, Ishola Michael of Nigerian Tribune as Secretary while Bashir Hassan of the Politico Magazine is the PRO.
