The Senator representing Plateau North Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Senator Pam Mwadkon Dachungyang has called on the appropriate authority to carry out a thorough investigation into the collapse of a school building at Saint Academy College in Jos, which claimed the lives of 22 students, leaving many others with severe injuries.
Speaking with newsmen after his visit to those receiving treatment at various hospitals within the state capital, the senator said there is a need for strict adherence to rules and regulations guiding the construction of buildings to avoid such calamities in the future.
Dachungyang, who said the country had witnessed many such unfortunate incidences in recent times, expressed his intention to propose a motion on the floor of the Senate on compliance with the laid-down standard on building construction, especially in primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions.
The lawmaker commended the hospitals, security agencies, emergency workers, and individuals for their prompt response to the unfortunate incident.
He offered condolences to the bereaved families, urging them to find hope in the face of tragedy.
Also, he commiserated with the Muslim Ummah in Plateau State over the demise of Sheikh Lawal Adam, Chief Iman of Jos Central Mosque, and extended his heartfelt condolences to the family, the leadership of the Jos Central Mosque, as well as the entire Ulamah in the state.
