Jos: Irate youths protest alleged killing of poultry farm security guard

There was pandemonium in part of the Jos North local government area of Plateau State on Tuesday as irate youths protested the alleged killing of a security man by his employer over a theft of eggs.

Nigerian Tribune learned that the incident occurred at the Etobaba area of the council in the early hours when the security man was alleged to have stolen some eggs and been beaten to a pulp by his employer.

According to eyewitnesses, the security man was beaten to death, thus attracting youths in the area who descended on the poultry and looted over 2000 birds before setting the structure on fire.

It was further learned that the youths also burned down the house of the owner of the poultry farm, which is close to the poultry.

An eyewitness, Mrs Simi Luka, declared, “The security man was alleged to have stolen some eggs while the owner of the poultry, along with his wife and children, descended on him and beat him to the point of death.

“When the news of his death filtered out, the youths mobilized to the scene and burned down the poultry while some miscreants looted all the birds and other facilities within the poultry. The policemen drafted to the scene mistakenly shot the youth leader while trying to disperse the youths. Thus further angered the youths, who also attacked residents of the owner of the poultry and reduced it to ashes, including a Toyota Highlander parked within the premises.”

“The youth leader is presently receiving treatment at the Bingham Teaching Hospital, while more security men have been drafted to the area to prevent further breakdowns of law and order,” she said.

All efforts to reach the spokesman of the Plateau State Police Command, DSP Alfred Alabo, were unsuccessful as his phone was not going through.
