Jonathan visits Kano for Maitama Sule, as supporters give rousing welcome

Published by

FORMER president, Dr Goodluck Jonathan, on Saturday, visited Kano to sympathise with the state government and people of the state  over the death of Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the Nations, Ambassador Maitama Sule.

He was joined in the state by  a former Kano governor, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau, and one-time Jigawa State governor, Sule Lamido.

Associates of the two ex-governors of the People Democratic Party (PDP) gave a rousing welcome to Jonathan. They came out in large numbers to the Government House, where the former president paid a courtesy call on the state governor, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje.

However, in order to avoid the teeming supporters, who assembled in front of the government house, the former president and the former governors, attempted to leave by another gate, but the supporters got wind of the plan and followed them.

Right from the gate of the Government House to the residence of Maitama Sule, shouts of ‘Sai Lamido’ and ‘Sai Shekarau’ meaning (it’s Lamido and Shekarau we want) rent the air.

Aside chanting political slogans of the former governors, some of the supporters also wore T-Shirts with  different inscriptions such as Lamido 2019, Shekarau 2019, Lamido, Better Choice for 2019, Sardaunan Shekarau Can Do It Better, among others.

Although, there was tight security during the visit of the former president, the supporters conducted themselves in a peaceful manner.
