Late Mrs Funke Olakunrin
Former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, and Governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Aleredolu and member, House of Representatives, Abiola Makinde have commiserated with Afenifere chairman, Chief Reuben Fasoranti and the entire Fasoranti family over the death of their daughter Mrs. Funke Olakunrin.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that Olakunrin was shot dead on Friday by gunmen at Ore Junction in Ondo State.
According to a statement issued in Abuja on Saturday by Ikechukwu Eze, media adviser to Jonathan, the former President in a message of condolence, Jonathan described the killing of the daughter of Afenifere chairman as shocking and called on the authorities to bring the culprits to book.
The former President said: “My heart goes out to Chief Reuben Fasoranti and his entire family over the untimely death of his daughter, Mrs. Funke Olakunrin, at the hands of suspected gunmen.
“No one deserves to hear such news, not the least being Pa Fasoranti, a man that has given so much to Nigeria and asked so little. I am encouraged by the message from the Governor of Ondo State and his assurances that those behind this heinous and callous crime will be brought to book.
“Baba, may God comfort you and your family and grant you the fortitude to bear the loss, even as we pray that the Almighty returns peace to Nigeria. My family and I offer you our deepest solidarity now and always. We also extend our arm in love to Afenifere. You are not alone.”
Akeredolu visits Fasoranti, seeks urgent measures to tackle insecurity
Meanwhile, Gov Akeredolu during a condolence visit to the residence of Chief Fasoranti called for urgent measures to tackle the challenge of insecurity in Nigeria.
While condoling with Mr Idowu Olakunrin, the husband of the deceased, the governor described the killing of Olakunrin as an ugly incident and a death too many.

“All of us are worried. There are some measures that have to be taken and we must prevent this.
“We must take whatever steps we want to take to tackle this issue of insecurity in order not to allow this happen again.
“It is a personal loss to all of us. For now, it is like we are mourning a relative that has just passed on,” the governor said.
Akeredolu promised that the state government would brief the media adequately about the steps and measures to be taken very soon.
The governor was accompanied by his Chief of Staff, Chief Gbenga Ale, as well as Ade Adetimehin, the Chairman of All Progressives Congress in the state and other members of the State Executive Council.
Makinde condoles Pa Fasoranti over daughter’s demise
In a statement made available to Tribune Online by his media adviser and spokesperson, Segun Adesemoye, member of the House of Representatives, representing Ondo East and West Federal Constituency, Hon. Abiola Makinde described the death as very sad and unfortunate, praying that God gives the Fasoranti and Olakunrin family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
“My heart goes out to the family at this very sad time and I pray that the good Lord will be with the family and comfort them,” he said.
Makinde charged security operatives to swing into action to swiftly arrest the perpetrators of this gruesome killing that has thrown the whole country into mourning.
Abiola further charged the government at all levels to beef up security and do more to protect the people from such an unfortunate incident.
